Rootbound Farm is the passion, business, and homeplace of Ben Abell, Bree
Pearsall and their daughter, Hazel Grace.
Ben got his start farming by interning on the legendary Live Power Community
Farm in Covelo, California. Live Power was one of the first biodynamic CSA farms in
the country and influenced Ben's commitment for a style of farming that honors the
land and creates a superb product for our community. Ben went on to work for local
farms in Kentucky and in 2008 he returned to his alma mater to manage the
Community Supported Agriculture program of the South Farm, University of
Kentucky’s horticulture research farm. Bree got her start farming when she was
offered a summer job picking tomatoes between college semesters. Soon after that
she met Ben (who had the farming itch real bad) and fast forward 10 years later and
they are both full-time farmers. We are grateful every day for this incredible
opportunity to tend our land and produce food for our community.
Rootbound Farm is now entering into its 7th year of growing high-quality
chemical-free produce. Our land is Certified Organic and we are located in Oldham
County nestled between Darby and Harrods Creeks. We grow a wide-range of market
crops for local restaurants and groceries, farmer's market sales, and our CSA program.
Rootbound Farm is a family-run certified organic farm in Oldham County,
Kentucky. We grow vegetables for farmers markets, CSA (community supported
agriculture), restaurants, and local wholesale markets. Our philosophy is "Feed the
Soil, Feed the Soul." We believe in being good stewards of the land and producing a
superb product for our customers and partners.
